About Local Practice Groups

Local practice groups provide a free weekly or bimonthly, venue for understanding, learning, and applying NVC skills. There is no charge for attending, and both beginners and well-versed practitioners can attend unless otherwise noted by a group. To best experience NVC Practice Groups, we suggest reading the basic NVC text, Nonviolent Communication, A Language of Life, by Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D. and its accompanying workbook, Nonviolent Communication Companion Workbook, by Lucy Leu. In addition, we recommend reading Speaking Peace in a World of Conflict by Dr. Rosenberg. Depending on supply, these books are available for sale at the Practice Groups – please let the group contact person know in advance if you wish to purchase them.

NVCNashville only endorses workshops and events conducted by trainers certified by the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC). However, local practice groups are led by both certified and non certified facilitators. Currently, Nashville is fortunate to have the only Certified Trainer through CNVC in Tennessee. Carlene Maginnis currently hosts and facilitates The Ongo Practice Group. We are happy that the other groups listed, although not led by CNVC-certified trainers, are providing opportunities for people to learn and practice non-violent communication in the greater Nashville area. Please contact all facilitators directly for more information.
