Registration

Having participants register before September 19 gives us enormous help and reassurance about financial and logistical planning for the workshop. We look forward to accommodating all who wish to attend, but we do have some space limitations on Friday evening and need lunch requests in advance. For those registering after the 21st, we’ll appreciate your flexibility as we try to make needed adjustments. And we appreciate your consideration of this timing request as you make your registration plans.

Workshop Description

Would you like to learn:

  • How to be present when challenges arise?
  • How to get support from others?
  • Skills to be an empathetic listener when someone else is experiencing a transition in their life?

Mary and Kathleen have personally walked through numerous life transitions in their lives.  Speaking about the last few years they say:

“Between us we’ve lost 3 parents, 3 other family members, and close friends; reevaluated old relationships and created new ones; implemented a full-scale company reorganization; stripped away layers of masks that have hidden our authenticity; and accompanied others through major life transitions of their own.  The journey through transitions continues as we still find ourselves offering companionship to family and friends living with terminal illnesses and other significant life-altering changes.

“Two qualities keep emerging through it all: courage and grace.”

Lunches

Lunch will be provided by the zoo at a cost to participants of $12/day, paid when checking in at the workshop.

The zoo provides lunches for different needs and preferences, but our contract with them does not allow us to bring in individual lunches into the venue space. We realize this is a change for those accustomed to bringing their lunch. Although we regret not having that option, we have decided that the benefits of having the workshop at the zoo outweigh this drawback.  If you have questions, please contact Fifi Johnson at fifijohnson@gmail.com.

“When I was young, I used to put up walls between myself and other people the minute I felt hurt, angry, sad, or vulnerable. As an adult I started to focus on the needs I was trying to meet. When I caught myself building walls to protect myself, I literally asked myself if I needed protection in the situation. I found that I was almost never in danger; protecting myself was an old outdated habit. The more I focused on the needs I wanted to meet and asked myself if I really needed protection, the more my defensive habits dwindled away.”
