ONGO Group

The ONGO Group Starts September 12, 2024!

“What if peace, compassion, and wisdom weren’t just nice words that you visit from time to time, but your actual day-to-day experience? What if your home was your temple and your life was your spiritual teacher?” These words, written by Catherine Cadden and Jesse Wiens Chu, welcome participants into the study of ONGO with transformative daily practices inviting us to bring spiritual practice home! The study ONGO is used as shorthand for ongoing spiritual practice.

The book offers 12 weeks of inspiration, step-by-step guidance, and ways to create support and companionship in and through the journey. The group will meet each Thursday evening beginning September 12 through December 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Once a month at 5:30, the group will enjoy a pot luck dinner prior to the 6:30 meeting!

Over the years ONGO has been offered empathetic friendships have been developed. One previous ONGO participant said,
“This is the most important group I’ve ever attended. I’ll never forget it.”

As Ram Dass said, “We are all just walking each other home.”

Mini Workshop: Spiritual Partnerships, The Journey of Authentic Power

From his book, Spiritual Partnership, The Journey for Authentic Power, Gary Zukav, describes spiritual partnerships as this: “Spiritual partnerships are vehicles that multi-sensory individuals use to create authentic power and support one another in creating authentic power.”

NVC is a multi-sensory experience. We explore somatically the energy of our needs, experience practices of mindfulness, self connection, and self compassion energetically, and through language learn to listen and express what’s alive in us. It’s an all inclusive and fascinating journey toward living authentically a power with ourselves and others.

This mini-workshop, facilitated by the Center For Nonviolent Communication Certified Trainer Carlene Maginnis, will focus on the multi-sensory approach to learning NVC.

Making The Big Shift….
From Blame to Compassionate Understanding

The challenge in life happens daily! Something is said and we feel the gamut from slightly to intensely frustrated, perhaps even anger. The intrusive thoughts of blame, criticism, interpretation, and the many judgements seem to come out of left field perhaps clouding the intent of what was said either by us or what we hear from another. And when we stack these judgements one upon another leaving them unattended, we easily live in emotional separation from others.

Join Us On August 5 as we learn how NVC supports us in the midst of separation to find our way home to ourselves whereby we’re more likely to hear and connect with the shared humanity of another.

This mini-workshop is Free and provided by NVCNashville as we support the mission of learning, practicing and sharing Nonviolent Communication.

The Power Of Listening, An NVCNashville Workshop August 6, 2022

The Power Of Listening,
An NVCNashville Workshop
August 6, 2022

“The hearing that is only in the ears is one thing. The hearing of the understanding is another. But the hearing of the spirit is not limited to any one faculty, to the ear, or to the mind. Hence it demands the emptiness of all the faculties. And when the faculties are empty, then the whole being listens. There is then a direct grasp of what is right there before you that can never be heard with the ear or understood with the mind.”              Chuang-Tzu

Listening, really listening, is a skill rarely learned in life.  Many times when someone is talking, we are thinking about what we want to say rather than “hearing” what is being said. Nonviolent Communication, also known as Compassionate Communication, offers some practice and applicable how to’s whereby we can significantly improve our intention to listen to what is being said. It all begins internally through the skill and practice of awareness. In this upcoming mini workshop, NVCN will offer the internal skills needed to hear ourselves and others.

Here’s what a workshop participant had to say about listening in a workshop with Marshall Rosenberg, founder of NVC:

“When I learned how I can receive (hear), as well as give (express), through using NVC, I went beyond feeling attached and ‘doormattish’ to really listening to words and extracting their underlying feelings. I discovered a very hurting man to whom I had been married for twenty-eight years. I learned to listen for feelings, to express my need, to accept answers that I didn’t always want to hear…..so that we can each be fulfilled.”

Whether you are new to NVC or have been around a while, we invite you to join us as together we remember the importance of hearing one another.

This will be an experiential workshop with the invitation to learn and practice the exercises offered.

We’ll have fun, laugh, and learn together as we create the world we were always meant to enjoy by “hearing” one another!

NVCN 2021 Virtual Workshops

Living NVC…. From The Inside Out

(facilitated by CNVC-certified trainer Carlene Maginnis)
There is a Moment Of Choice that occurs in conversations when one begins to feel frustrated, upset, even sad or happy. Our responses are often unconscious reactions to this Moment. Habitually, we go straight to our thoughts rather than to our body when we respond. NVCNashville offers its next workshop proposing we flip the script by starting first from the awareness of our bodies rather than our thoughts – especially when the conversation is difficult.

In this 3 hour workshop, we’ll learn how to appreciate the wisdom of our bodies. Living the practices of Nonviolent Communication encourages us to listen to the wisdom being held in our bodies seeking to be expressed. From these somatic touchstones, we’re more likely to respond in a way where we and others can be heard.

A Free NVC Introduction: Making Requests

Our final FREE Workshop for 2020
is December 5!
Registration is Open Now!

Each quarter of the year, NVCNashville offers a free workshop supporting our mission to learn, practice, and share NVC.
The last one for 2020 will be on Saturday, December 5, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

The topic for the Intro is Making Requests! When learning and practicing NVC, a common response is “Requests are the hardest part of learning NVC!” However, once this skill is learned, practiced, and integrated requests most often become the simplest skill in NVC!

There are many reasons we don’t make requests such as the fear of hearing a no and ever-present conditioning that our requests don’t matter! Someone recently shared that making requests for themselves was considered selfish in their family of origin. How about you? Do you fear rejection when you consider asking for what you want? You’re not alone!

There’s a lot to unpack about making requests and you can begin this journey on December 5. The ongoing exploration will continue in 2021 in an upcoming series of classes offered by our local Certified Trainer from The Center For Nonviolent Communication, Carlene Maginnis. If you’ve a request to make about learning how to make requests, this may be the place to check it out!

Your requests frame how you take control of your life in a way that is authentic to your true nature. End the year and begin the new one learning how requests can make all the difference in creating the life you most value for yourself and others.
